Our Bakery
Trappist communities observe the counsel of the Rule of St. Benedict, a 6th century guide for monastic life, that stresses the importance of ora et labora or “pray and work.” Monks are encouraged to be self-supportive and offer charitable assistance to others by producing and selling goods to the public. Since 1953, Monks’ Bread has been crafted using the centuries-old Trappist tradition to support the Monks of the Abbey of the Genesee, and offer charitable assistance to others locally in Western New York, in every region where our bread is sold, and helping to care for others in foreign lands.
