Sheila Booth-Alberstadt is the author of the popular Maggie McNair series and the founder of SBA Books, created to publish children’s books with a purpose.
The mother of four children, Booth-Alberstadt has a passion for people, especially for young people, and an understanding of the highs, lows, difficulties, and successes they can encounter along the way.
In 2009, she founded SBA Books as a platform to publish works that help children and youth deal with the tasks of daily life as well as face dark places that can occur without warning. She has written children’s books that tackle grief and other sensitive topics as part of her mission to create children’s books that portray untold stories of the thousands of children who suffer in dysfunctional environments. “Children need characters they can relate to,” she says, “messages , that will bring comfort and hope, such as that in Under the Crybaby Tree, and stories that will instill positive behavior.”
To focus on positive behavior — and inspired by her own children’s aversion to baths, brushing teeth, cleaning their rooms, and more – Booth-Alberstadt created the Maggie McNair character leading to a series that touches on common, everyday occurrences in life, including hygiene issues and manners, lessons best learned early in life.
