I have always been interested in the Amish and their way of life and since visiting the Amish community in Pennsylvania and seen all the classic images come to life I have been compelled to work with all the classic Amish designs and re invent them in modern fabrics. All the designs go back hundreds of years and have a story to tell. I find it fascinating how the same design can look totally different by using modern patterned fabrics instead of the plain traditional ones used by the Amish. Now when I receive new fabrics I study them until they suggest the Amish design that will best display them to their best advantage. It all starts with the fabric. Using the traditional methods and working entirely by hand increases my enjoyment of the creativity. I love the process as much as the finished product .
